The Market for Boilermakers in 2026
The Market for Boilermakers in 2026
BLS projects a decline in boilermaker employment as coal power plants close, but the small workforce size means replacement demand creates openings even in a declining market. Experienced boilermakers are in consistent demand for planned industrial turnarounds.
The industrial boilermaker market is more resilient than the headline number suggests. Chemical plants, nuclear facilities, LNG terminals, and industrial process plants all require ongoing boiler and pressure vessel maintenance that sustains work for experienced boilermakers.
Turnaround boilermakers who travel to refinery and chemical plant shutdowns are some of the highest-paid tradespeople in any field. A boilermaker who works 3–4 major turnarounds per year can earn $100,000+ through a combination of base wages, premium overtime, and per diem allowances.
